Training

After completing the Basic Academy, BORSTAR agents continue to train in order to develop and maintain skills in all disciplines of search and rescue. Quarterly qualification testing is required for physical training standards, technical rescue, and air operations.

Other regularly scheduled training includes clinical rotations with local emergency medical services units and hospitals, practical exercises in land navigation, refresher training in operating all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles, and training in practical search and rescue. Advanced training includes technical rescue, training for air operations crews, land navigation training, training for instructors in CPR and first aid, training for medical specialists and communication specialists, swiftwater rescue, swiftwater instructor training, and canine training.
