Search and Rescue Operations

The U.S. Border Patrol's BORSTAR Teams are some of the busiest rescue units in the world. Using expert trackers, air assets, canines, and all-terrain vehicles, the BORSTAR Teams have very high success rates. As of September 2002, BORSTAR Teams have performed over 1,000 missions and saved over 2,500 lives along the southwest border. The majority of victims saved have been suffering from heat- or cold-related conditions.
